Hey Fairytale Frosting Fans! Thought I'd drop in and let you guys know where the heck I've been and whats been going on.

You may have noticed over the last year that my posts have been becoming less and less frequent. I found it harder and harder to spend hours upon hours editing photographs, teaching myself about html codes and what not. I love this blog, and everything its given me over the years, however it just doesnt seem to be as fulfilling anymore.

I recently started graduate school so between that, work, and my volunteer work, Im finding it that much harder to get motivated to post things.

So for now, Im "officially" taking a break from the blog.

I've also put my Etsy shop on vacation mode so that for now I can focus on school.

I still have lots of photos to share, other projects I never posted, and I'm sure I wont be able to stay away from frosting for too long. So with that, I ask that you still follow me on Facebook. I'll post updates there from time to time.

Whether I will return to the blogosphere, its too early to tell. But for those of you who have been along for the ride, thank you so much for all of the love and support.
I hope you'll check in from time to time on Facebook.

Today I am sharing with you a collection I did for a friend's daughter. Little Rainee has a favorite monkey toy that she takes with her everywhere. We decided on a collection inspired by her toy!

Rainee even had her own monkey smash cake!

My favorite part is this monkey topper. She was so fun to make and really pulled the design together!

Today I want to share with you a recent order I did. The party was a fiesta but they also were really into the mustache trend, thus the Mustache Fiesta was born!

Wizard of Ozsome!

All of these garden projects I have worked on were leading up to my annual garden party. You may recall some of my previous parties. The first was Enter Eden, followed by the Blogiversary, and last year's 50 Shades of Fabulous! My girlfriends have come to know that I always throw a party with a theme, so they were especially excited when I announced this year's theme was inspired by the Wizard of Oz. My dear friend Melissa dubbed it "Wizard of Ozsome"
The inspiration for this party actually began a few years ago. One of my "long term" garden projects was to transform my ugly concrete into the yellow brick road. I want to create the magical whimsy feel in my yard and the yellow brick road was one way to do it!
Last summer I tried using a yellow tinted concrete stain but it did not achieve the look I wanted. So this year I went over the stain with a darker stain, and then used exterior paint that I sponged onto the sidewalk. The results were fantastic! Here are some before and after pics.

With a sidewalk like that the Wizard of Ozsome party was only natural!

Unfortunately it was really windy that day so my rainbow backdrop didnt look as neat as I would have liked. But the effect was still phenomenal!

Its not a real party unless I've got glittered wine bottles somewhere!

I had some bricks in the garage that I painted yellow. I used stained glass paint and a Dollar Store vase to create the Emerald City candle centerpiece. The poppies were also handmade out of crepe paper.

The buffet table

I made sure to add some whimsical touches to the buffet as well!

I made the Tin Man from soup cans and designed a custom wine bottle label too!

My Mom had made me a Dorothy inspired hostess apron, which went along perfectly with my current foster dog, Moxie.

We of course had to have a photobooth set up inside too! This is one of my favorite shots of the group.

Lastly, here is another one of my favorite photos that I instagrammed that night.

This may be my favorite of all of the parties I've thrown! We had such a magical time!

DIY Garden Globes

Yes, I am still posting about garden stuff even though its October. In my defense it was sunny and 70s here in Minnesota yesterday. Im in denial that its autumn.
Today's project is a Pinterest Win!!! I saw a few tutorials on how to make your own glitter Christmas ornaments and I thought, well, why not turn that into garden art?!
I had purchased some plastic and glass ornaments at Michael's at the end of last season. I had grand intentions of making something cool out of them, but as a lot of projects go, I never got to it. I decided to use them for the garden instead.

Supplies you will need:
Variety of glass and/or plastic ornaments
Glitter
Pledge Floor Care Finish Cleaner (I was only able to find this at Wal-Mart)

Supplies not pictured:
Wood dowels that will fit inside your ornaments
Floral wire

To make the glitter globes is really easy. Pour a little bit of the floor care solution into the ornament. Pour a bit of glitter into the ornament. Cover the opening, swish and swirl around until the globe is covered. Add more glitter if needed. Do not add more floor cleaner though, it will make the glitter clumpy.
Set the ornament back in the try to dry. Repeat with all of them. I let mine dry over night.

To make them into garden stakes, I removed the hanger hooks and kept the cover piece for each ornament. I had to use my Big Bite Hole Punch to make the openings wider to slide the dowel through. I wrapped floral wire around the dowel, thick enough so the ornament piece wouldn't slide down past it.
Once secure, slide your ornament onto the dowel and into the cover. The dowel should hit the top of the ornament for it to sit right. Don't worry, I didn't have any problem with it ruining the glitter finish inside.
You may need to adjust where the wire/cover sit on the dowel.
Once this step is complete, insert your dowel into the ground and......

VIOLA!!! A beautiful glittery garden globe stake!

Pretty fun huh?

I am into quirky garden art so I made a few to go around my carousel horse too!

Mushroom Garden Art

Mushrooms have been really popular this season. Or maybe its just me. I dont know, but I decided that I needed some in my yard. I got this crazy idea to use up some left over PVC pipe I had in the garage and some Dollar Store bowls I picked up. Check out how easy it is to make your own garden mushrooms!

All you need are some plastic bowls, PVC pipe, spray paint, and heavy duty glue. I used E6000.

I picked up some red bowls at the Dollar Store and spray painted white circles on them. I simply used my Cricut to cut a circle and then used the negative paper as a stencil.

Once the bowls are painted and dry, turn them right side up, place a layer of glue onto an end of the PVC pipe and set it inside the bowl. Allow at least 24 hours to fully dry.

I just dug a hole a few inches deep and secured each mushroom into the ground. How fun is that?!

I love how easy this was and the charm it adds to my gardens!

You could even get really crazy and make different colored mushrooms! Perhaps I'll add some blue or green ones next season!

For The Love of Teal

Hello! I know, its been almost all summer and I've hardly updated this blog at all! I am so sorry that I've been M.I.A. for so long, but I've thought of you guys all summer! I've got lots of projects and fun things to share so I hope to have more regular posts coming your way for awhile.
So let me start by taking you back to earlier this summer. Minneapolis had a wicked storm roll through the city and it took down hundreds upon thousands of trees, almost excursively from the city boulevards. On the night of this storm, I was enjoying the power outage down the road at a friend's house when my neighbor messaged me that a tree feel down into my yard.

It doesnt look too bad right? I mean, it missed the house! That is until you see how it looks inside the yard....

Nice huh? I cant really complain though. My fence is only a few years old, and I have a gate that I cannot stand. Its not very strong, and my dogs have broken through it before. Coincidentally, the tree fell through that particular gate! Thats was essentially the only damage!

My parents were going to come visit and build a new gate for me. One that was sturdier and would keep my dogs from going crazy every time someone walked by. I had to wait about 2 weeks, so this was how I made it work until then.

Classy huh?

But it was only temporary!

Gary got to work building the gate, I have a feeling he thinks this was the funnest project he's ever worked on!

A day and a half later, I had this beautiful new gate!! Now, I could have chosen to paint it white, but anyone that knows me, knows, normal is not my thing.

I chose to go with a bold shade of teal! I absolutely LOVE it!! I was so inspired I decided to paint the two other gates I have on this fence!

This gate is a slightly different shade. I had to use spray paint on this one because the gate is PVC. But I still love how it turned out. The difference is subtle, so I doubt anyone will notice.

This gate is on the other side of my house, not the street side. I painted this the same color and decided to add a decorate touch! My brother had given me this Disney door knocker a few years ago, but I hadn't had a door to install it on.....

Pretty fun right?!

So this was the first of many projects I took on this summer. I know we are approaching fall and everyone will be sharing their pumpkin recipes, but I am going to hang onto summer just a bit longer and share more projects from my yard! Stay tuned!

Scented candles are a bit of an addiction for me. At any time I have upwards of 15-20 candles in my living room. I love the smells and the ambiance.

Each candle has a different ring, so you get a long lasting, wonderful smelling candle and a shiny new ring?! Pretty much a girl's dream come true.
So I sampled the Lavender Lemon scent. Let me tell you what, YUM. I love the fresh clean scent of lemon but the relaxing aroma that comes with lavender too. Combine them and you have a fantastically soothing and fresh scent.
When my foil package was finally revealed I was ecstatic! I loved the ring! Its so my style too!

I love everything about these candles. The only "negative" I would give on this review is that the ring is a little bit big. I'd love to see where you could create a profile of your ring size(s) and be able to select a scent and ring size to ensure your bling properly fits.
Overall I give this product 2 thumbs up!!

Pinterest Project: Dip Dyed Ombre Shoes

Earlier this season a couple of my girlfriends came over and both were wearing these super cute canvas shoes. They were different styles of course but I was having some serious shoe envy. I don't get shoe envy often and its almost never about casual shoes. I happened to be on Pinterest the next day and saw a variety of pins about DIY dip dyed canvas shoes. Low and behold Wal-mart was in stock of some simple white shoes for the wondrous price tag of $5.99! I couldn't help it, I had to try it out. So I picked up the shoes and some teal color dye.

Make sure to read the directions on the dye, and have any supplies for that. In this case I just needed water and salt.

I read several tutorials for how to do this. One them suggested putting Vaseline on the soles of the shoe to keep that part from being dyed. I decided that was the best option because I wasnt sure the rubbery sole would really absorb the dye.

From here, its actually quite simple, just dip them in!

At this point I used a scrap of old fabric and dipped it in the dye, I continued to layer it onto the shoes to blend the dip line and create the gradual ombre effect. There really is no magic method, just keep dipping and spreading until you get an effect you like.

I left the shoes to dry overnight. You can expect that the color will tone down quite a bit as the fabric dries.

This is the end result!! I love them!!

These shoes are super comfortable and I love the bright color and ombre effect! Super easy, inexpensive summer shoe!

Office Library Random Room Makeover

When I first moved into this house I had a vision for the 4 bedrooms. Upstairs would be my guest room and craft room. Downstairs the master bath and office (which could easily become a nursery at a later date). However the "office" never really transformed into that. My habits lead me to working on my blog, paying bills, and other "office-y" type stuff in the living room. So its sort of my "office/library/random" room. I've hated that room since I moved in. Here's what it looked like when I first moved in:

I went on a crazy painting spree the first month I was here, and since I didnt have a cohesive design for this room, I just used some left over paint to create this disaster:

It stayed that way for 3 years because I just couldnt make up my mind. Then suddenly I was inspired. The room still is a hybrid of no actual purpose, but I do find myself spending time in my "library" reading books or just hanging out for a change of scenery.

I have to admit, I absolutely love it, even if the room is full of random and no real point.
Do you have any space in your home you just havent quite figured out what to do with? Are you happy with it as is or do you have a wishlist for it??

Glow In The Dark Wine Glasses

Yesterday I posted about my DIY Patio Bar but there are a couple of other projects that go along with that. Today's project, glow in the dark wine glasses!!
I wanted some fun wine glasses for the patio, but I didnt want to risk breakage. I picked up some plastic glasses on sale at Bed, Bath and Beyond for just under $2 each. Then I headed over to Michaels for the paint to decorate them.

I grabbed a bottle of the Tulip Glow In The Dark Puffy Paint and got to work!

I decided to tape off the top of the glass for easier cleaning and so you dont have to put your lips on the textured puffy paint when drinking from them.

I didnt follow any sort of pattern, I just sort of went at it. I did all of the designs freehand off the top of my head.

After "charging" them in the sunlight, this is how they turned out! Its a fun little touch when your patio party stems into the evening hours.

DIY Patio Bar

Summer has finally arrived and my favorite thing to do is hang out on my patio with friends. Previously I had my picnic table on the patio, but I never really liked how that layout looked and functioned. This season I was determined to come up with a better solution. Then it dawned on me, I had an old door in the basement collecting dust. It was the perfect size for a bar/buffet!! So I moved the picnic table under one of the trees in my yard and got to work.
I went to Menards and picked up 16 cinder blocks and some construction adhesive. Here is a picture of the bar in the making.

It really was just as simple as gluing and stacking the blocks together! I laid the door across the top, and viola! It was done! Last season I had purchased an outdoor tablecloth on clearance at Big Lots, so I grabbed that to cover the door.

I also got some picnic tablecloth clips to ensure it stayed in place.

Another fun fact about this set up, I got the bar tool set, brand new in the box, at a garage sale for $5. The wine glasses are another DIY project I'll be featuring soon, and so is the pink lantern! So stay tuned!
I gotta tell you, having this set up has made a world of difference. I had friends over for a cookout and we set up the buffet. Everyone enjoyed dinner comfortably at my picnic table under the tree and we weren't crammed for space. I love how functional this really turned out to be!

DIY Dinosaur Planters

Today the sun is actually shining. If you live in Minnesota, you know, our spring has sucked. Cold, gray, and rain. I was keeping myself busy with lots of crafty things anticipating that someday spring or summer (at this point I didnt care which) would show up.

One of those projects was Dino Planters! These are actually pretty small planters, but they are super fun and easy to do.

All you need to start are some plastic dinos. I found these in a $1 toy bin at Wal-mart. I spray painted them blue and yellow.

Take a razor blade/box cutter and carefully cut a hole to create the planter opening. I also poked a couple of holes in their bellies for drainage.

Fill with a little potting soil and a plant and RRRRWWWAAAARRRRR! You have Dinosaur Planters!!

In case you're curious, I planted moss roses in mine.

I am so happy to share that my best friend Kelly is expecting baby number 2! You may recall the baby shower dessert table I designed for her first child, Isaac. Click HERE to see more about that.
Kelly and her husband Dave went for my suggestion of doing a gender reveal party for this baby. At their ultrasound the doctor put the gender in a sealed envelope which I picked up from them. I had to hold my excitement for about a week. We settled on the theme "What The Duck Is It?" so I made a duck cake and cupcakes, the inside was colored to represent the gender. Check it out!

So the question of the day...What the duck is it???

Bedroom Closet Makeover

Yesterday I shared with you how I made over my bedroom door and closet door. Today check out what I did to the inside of my bedroom closet!

This is what my closet looked like before. I attempted some creative organizing but it really wasn't working out.

Here is what it looks like after! Well without all of my clothes and stuff in it yet!

I decided to utilize the door as jewelry storage. I am a visual person and need to see my options laid out in front of me.

I covered the shelf with left over contact paper from my Pantry Project. I painted the inside blue with a 50's starburst retro design in aqua.

Originally I had planned to use different door knobs to hang bangles and bracelets on. However door knobs are expensive. Instead I used glitter on some clear gems and hot glued them to long screws.

For an added burst of fun, I painted outer frame of the door hot pink!!

I wanted to create a whimsical vibe so I changed the door knob and added a key hole plate to it. The key hole part isnt functional but it looks fantastic!

Here is the inside with all of my clothes and jewelry. Nice, neat, and organized!

For a little added glam I made this faux chandelier.

I also love elephants so when I found this crystal elephant pull chain, I had to have it!

The final touch was to organize my clothes. I organize by color then sleeve length. I made these dividers for easy organization.

So what do you think?! I hope you love it as much as I do! Every morning its like opening a secret door to wonderland!!

Emerald Green Doors

This season emerald green is the hot color. Little did Panetone know, I was already obsessed with it! Well, ok, maybe obsessed with green in general. The floor plan of my house is mostly green. Including my bedroom. However, my bedroom door and closet door were the standard wood. Blah blah, booooring!
Here's what they looked like before:

See how lame and boring?

Meh. Blah.
And then I transformed them with paint!!!! Taaaa Daaaa!!!

Why no, thats not a different door on the right (my closet). I changed the door knob and I attached Dollar Store frames to the door for architectural detail.

Stay tuned, the door makeover was just the beginning!!

Uno Birthday Party

I am so pleased to share with you a real party from one of my readers! This absolutely adorable Uno themed first birthday party was done by Laurie Leal. It just could not be cuter! Check out the details!

Avery is my third child. If there is one thing I know, it's that the one year old party is for the parents, not the child. At this point I don't have anything to prove and hosting a party where we invited our friends would mean a very large gathering with MANY kids. If the weather was nice in Upstate NY at the beginning of April, it could have been an option. But it's not. So we decided to keep the party to a small intimate group of five families (10 adults and 10 kids). Since I wasn't going to be spending a ton of money or time of large quantities of food, I dedicated my time to adorable invitations, the cutest outfit ever, and the dessert table.

Being a first birthday, I decided on an "Uno" theme. First, the invite. Paper Clever (via etsy) made adorable invitations.

Second, the outfit. Again, Etsy provided me with Birthday Couture who made an adorable Uno dress. Matched with rainbow leg warmers, a monogrammed diaper cover and headband - Avery was set for some pictures!

For the party, dinner food was on one table, drinks on another and the dessert table - another.

I began the dessert table by using black and white. Black table cloth, white dishes. I added the Uno colors (red, green, yellow and blue) with icing, flowers, etc..

The dessert table included cupcakes with toppers from Fairytale Frosting, cookies, chocolate lollipops and candy. The cupcakes alternated chocolate and white cake. The lovely toppers were my featured item and added color to the cupcakes. The cookies were homemade sugar cookies with homemade colored icing. I use red, green and blue to stay with the Uno theme. I melted colored chocolate for lollipops. I arranged them like the Wild Card in the game Uno. Little red ribbons were tied on each lollipop for a more finished look. Lemonheads and Cherry Bombs filled glass jars. I used toys we already had (like the soft blocks) and some cute red pots with cut flowers to fill in the extra area. A personalized frame on the wall helped frame the table.

Seriously, how cute is Avery?!

Pearls and Pajamas Brunch

I am so excited to share with you my recent party! If you've been following my blog, you know that I recently had a roommate move in. Jess has been fantastic to live with. We get along like we've known each other for years! We decided it would be fun to have a party to meet each other's friends. We decided to throw a brunch with the theme Pearls & Pajamas! As one girl put it "Brunch, pajamas and cocktails?! I'm there!"

Check out all of the fun we had!

I made the flowers from coffee filters!

Each place setting had a pearl necklace and earrings.

Of course we had to take a group photo in our sexy pjs!

I couldnt help myself, this "out take" was just too cute!

The brunch was a success and everyone had fun meeting each other!

The Rainbow Bridge

Last week was one of the most difficult weeks I've experienced thus far. I unexpectedly lost my beloved dog Sookie. Sookie was only 4.5 years old. She started showing signs of what I had believed to be kennel cough on Easter Sunday. I took her to the vet on Monday morning, after a few hours they transferred me to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Clinic. Sookie was admitted into ICU. I learned a few hours later that she had a collapsing trachea. This is apparently very common in small breed dogs, especially yorkies. However, Sookie's was quite severe. We kept her in ICU over night, and the plan was to see how she did with drug therapy. If that didn't improve things she would need a surgery that would cost over $5,000.
Monday afternoon I went to the ICU, took off her little sweatshirt, gave her a hug and kiss and told her I'd see her in the morning. At 5:00am, Tuesday April 2nd, I received the call that my baby girl went into cardiac arrest and did not make it. As Im sure you can imagine I was and am devistated by her loss. I've had a difficult time coming to terms with it, and my poor boy Caesar has also been lost. I had all kinds of posts I wanted to put up last week of projects I've been working on, but I couldnt find the energy. I didnt get out of bed for 3 days. Fortunately, I work in an office of dog owners. Everyone was extremely understanding of my situation.
I wanted to share with you some of the ways I coped with her loss. First, is a letter I posted on my personal Facebook page to her.

Dear Sookie,
Hi baby girl. You know you’re weird ass mamma had to write you a goodbye letter. I know, you’re thinking “yep, saw this coming mom.” I have to try to put into words what you’ve meant to me. Words really don’t do it justice, but at least it helps to say them.
I remember the day you came into my life. I pulled in the driveway and saw you in the backyard. A tiny, nervous little furball. You looked up at me with those big eyes and I was done. I was yours.
I had no idea at that moment how much you would teach me. I think that my heart quadrupled in size with just the love I had for you. Sometimes I would sit and stare at you because I couldn’t believe how much love I felt. I wanted to hug and squeeze you constantly. I missed you when we were a part. But when I would come home, there you were, excited to see me. You would jump, smile and “honk”.
You were the worlds best snuggler. Really. Every night, curling up in a little ball next to me, or sharing my pillow. We were like girl friends at a sleepover, laying on our backs next to each other.
You were so enthusiastic when we would go out for walks. I should have taken you on more of them.
Sometimes it drove me crazy, but I secretly loved how, on the weekends, you would try to wake me up by pawing and licking my face. You were always ready to start the day happy and bouncy.
I worry about Caesar since I cant explain to him where you are. You taught him how to be a dog, by the way, thanks for teaching him to sit on the back of the couch! He’s too big for that you know.
I will miss your high fives or how you would dance for a treat. I will miss watching you find the sunniest spot in the yard and stretch out in the warmth. I will miss how you felt, how your tiny paws felt when you would walk across my feet. I will miss every little thing about you. Even cleaning up the little turds you’d leave for me when I was at work.
Thank you for changing me. Thank you for loving me, just as I am. Thank you for making the decision to leave this world so that I didn’t have to decide for you. Having you in my life, even though the time was so short, was the greatest gift I could have ever received. I will count the minutes until we can be together again.
Saying “I love you” doesn’t even begin to cover what I felt for you, but I’ll say it anyway. Sookie, I love you, always have, always will.

The outpouring of love and support I received from my friends, family, and coworkers has been incredible. I have been fortunate enough to have lived a life that hasnt been touched by much grief and loss. This was a loss that was more than I could put into words. But people reached out to me, phone calls, facebook, texts, and even cards. It was such a humbling experience. I miss my baby girl every second of every day, but its a comfort to know that I have such wonderful support.

I hope to be back to posting more often soon, I have lots to share with you!

I am officially obsessed with monthly subscription boxes! I recently signed up for a new monthly subscription.....SOCKS!! I hate buying socks and the ones I do have are so boring. Sock Panda was my answer!
I just got my first pair and I was so excited I had to show them off!

Are these not the funnest socks?! I love this subscription!

Star Wars, Unicorns, Glitter, Feathers and Cooking

Sometimes I get the coolest orders! This client was bringing the dessert to a combined birthday party. The two guests of honor were friends with different tastes. One, a chef who was very much into Star Wars (you can see the cupcakes I did for his baby shower HERE) the other a girlie girl who loves unicorns, glitter, feathers and all things girlie. She does have a flair for the interesting (check out the cupcakes I did for her past birthday HERE). When I was offered the chance to make cupcakes for this duo, I had to try it! Check out the mix!

I think the little unicorn is my favorite! What a fun mix of ideas to do, I really enjoyed this order!
